I am against same-sex marriage mainly because of my religion. God says that two people of the same gender cannot be together because it is a sin. He created man to be with a woman and a woman to be with a man. If it wasn’t supposed to be like this then two people of the same gender could reproduce with each other, their private parts wouldn’t be designed for the opposite sex and you could make love freely without worrying about the high risk STDs associated with homosexual couples. Lastly, same-sex marriage would have already been legalized a long time ago and not looked down upon today by the US and by other countries.
How does it affect me? Well, it may not affect me personally but does every single issue out there have to personally affect someone in order to be against it? Abortion, child abuse, animal abuse, smoking, stealing, murder, car crashes, etc all of those problems do not affect me in the slightest yet I am still vehemently against every last one.
What same sex marriage does affect is marriage itself. It is taking marriage and redefining it in order to fit a certain agenda just because people think they should be allowed to marry whoever they want, regardless if it’s wrong. Now, just because I feel like gay people shouldn’t marry, doesn’t mean I hate them or that I’m homophobic. Everyone should be treated equally, and it’s sad how couples who aren’t married are treated, which is why I 100% support civil unions for gays, and anyone else for that matter. For me, marriage is a religious issue, and a true marriage is blessed by the Holy Spirit who joins the couple into one.
I hope I gave you insight into why I believe the way I do. I understand if you’re completely against everything I just said. We all have different opinions, after all. :)
